History of Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai Waqf Foundation
The history of the Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai Waqf Foundation (YWAMJP) began with a growing commitment to Islamic education and community development in the late 1970s. In 1979, the Al-Muhajirien Majelis Taklim was established as a platform for religious learning and community engagement in Bekasi. This initiative laid the foundation for a more structured movement in education and da’wah.
As the need for a formal and sustainable institution increased, the idea of establishing a legally recognized foundation emerged in 1982. This initiative was further strengthened following a meeting between H. Mohammad Zain, later recognized as the founder of the foundation, and K.H. Hasan Basri, who was serving as the Chairman of YPI Al Azhar at the time. The meeting inspired the formation of a formal legal entity to support the development of Islamic education in a more organized and professional manner.
On August 9, 1985, the foundation was officially established under the name Yayasan Pendidikan Islam Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai by H. Mohammad Zain and six other founders. In its early years, the foundation focused on developing basic education, strengthening da’wah activities, and fostering community development.
In its subsequent development, the foundation established a long-standing collaboration with YPI Al Azhar to provide quality Islamic education through the operation of Al Azhar Islamic Schools in the Jakapermai and surrounding areas. This partnership became a significant milestone in enhancing the quality and scope of the foundation’s educational services.
In the late 1990s to early 2000s, the foundation underwent institutional transformation, including a name change to Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai Waqf Foundation. This change reflected a stronger commitment to waqf-based asset management as a foundation for sustainable growth and community benefit.
In the following years, the foundation continued to expand its educational network, not only through Al Azhar schools but also by establishing Al-Muhajirien-based institutions, including Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs). This expansion aimed to provide a more comprehensive and integrated education system.
Today, the Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai Waqf Foundation has grown into a well-established Islamic institution actively contributing to education, da’wah, and social development. In carrying out its mission, the foundation upholds five core values—Ikhlas (sincerity), Amanah (trustworthiness), Istiqomah (consistency), Jama’ah (collectiveness), and Imamah (leadership)—as the guiding principles in serving the community and building future generations.
